The village is situated in the hills at 365 mt s.l.m..In medieval times it was called "Castrum Guardiae" the people called it "Carrascal" and "Carnassale. Currently, two nuclei are evident: one of feudal origin (VI-IX cent.) called Old Castle and one of medieval origin called New Castle, which was built in the thirteenth century, by the people of Fermo and aggregated to the feudal village.

At the Church of St. Angelo in Piano, was found recently a furnace from the Roman period (III - II century BC.), which seems to have been reused in the Middle Ages.
Numerous Roman coins were found in the territory of period III sec.aC the fifth century. d. C. The old castle is the oldest inhabited place, characterized by the winding picturesque alleyways.
The new castle is notable for the breadth of the relatively more straight streets and homes of local origin, with reference to the laity in the clock tower, which was rebuilt recently. Here there are remains of the fortified walls of the fourteenth and fifteenth century, the so-called "military trenches."
4 km from the town of Carassai, stands majestic, Castello di Monte Varmine of the fourteenth century with the remains of the ninth, probably of Lombard origin; it is one of the castles of the Marches, which has remained intact, with its mighty walls, the high tower from the "blackbirds" Ghibellines (35 m).
