Handicrafts

The crafts consist of a series of products which come from the knowledge and skill of the Piceno's men. Every profession has its important role that has been handed down from generation to generation. The craft, being closely linked to the historical roots of the territory, can relive the atmosphere of past times.

In Offida, the lace is a real art whose origins date back to the fifteenth century. The name comes from the tool: a cylindrical pillow filled with sawdust on which is applied the design of the lace. Even today the lace makers work in the summer on the streets, in front of the doorway.

In Ripatransone on the road that leads to Grottammare, almost opposite the church of Santa Maria della Petrella, we find the company that produces cotto bricks and terracotta artefacts.

In Monterubbiano there are still important carpentry workshops.

At Montefiore Aso, the Peasant Culture Museum, located in the Cloister of St. Francis, enables visitors to experience in a few moments, a period of long duration. This museum presents the aspects of the rural reality that characterized the work of man.
