Montalto delle Marche
The area was already inhabited in prehistoric times: the civic museum is home to numerous artifacts from the Neolithic Age (6,000 BC), the Apennine culture (2,500 BC), picena (VII BC), and Roman times onwards.
In the fourteenth century, local communities organize themselves into free communes of Montalto, Patrignone, Porchia.
In the municipal area (from the Archeoclub's Headquarters), 14 settlements from Roman times and a village in the Neolithic period have been located. The Archaeological Museum has been recently opened to the public with more than 3000 artefacts.
A Mint was established in Montalto by Pope Sixtus V. at the end of the sixteenth century.
